OVST presents an exciting new program to nurture students in the development of theatrical knowledge and skills. Through a variety of hands-on activities, participants will have an opportunity to explore performance and/or technical production and artistry with a concentration in the area of their choice. Individual growth and development is the goal. Possible topics of exploration include movement, voice, acting and character development, stage lighting, sound, costume design and stage make-up, prop construction, puppetry, and stage combat.

Connie Winters was a central figure with the Athens Children’s Theater from 1980—95, mounting workshops and school productions for children first grade through middle school. She is a certified teacher at both the elementary and high school level, and taught at River Valley Community School for 16 years where she also served as fine arts coordinator. While with AGPP Connie specialized in developing performance segments geared toward children, including the popular Green Parks puppet vignettes. She has played a variety of roles with OVST including, most recently, Amanda in The Glass Menagerie. Over the years, Connie has also worked on several Athens High School productions. She earned BFA degrees from Ohio University in both Theater and Dance, and has choreographed many OVST musicals. Connie now teaches at Hocking College and lives in Athens with her husband Bob.
